WESTERN PIEDMONT COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Western Piedmont Community College (WPCC) will build upon their campus outdoor learning environment to provide Burke County residents with an accessible trail system in collaboration with Broughton Hospital, City of Morganton, and others.

Underdeveloped lands in the area will be repurposed to provide open spaces, greenways, and enhanced natural resources for a variety of experiences and healthy activities. On campus, wellness activities that engaged faculty and staff through incentive programs will broaden to include students and community members.

WPCC now offers a wider selection of cafeteria options, hosts monthly workshops in collaboration with Blue Ridge Health Center, and ultimately aims to spread awareness of healthy practices and local resources like the Western Piedmont Nature Trail.

The Play and Discover walk is filled with signage encouraging discovery for the young children brought to campus guided by the Early Childhood curriculum. Other WPCC programs have collaborated to engineer and interact with the Play and Discover walk: woodworking, biological science, even theatre.
